It seems lately that everyplace I go in Otherkin Land, there seem to be more people who are hybrids/shapeshifters/chimera than people with one set kin type. A lot of these claims seem hard to believe to me, and I want to make sure I'm not unfairly dismissing people based on my own lack of information on the subject. I had a past life on another planet where humanoid beings lived. That life came after a life in another world completely where I was some kind of winged being/possibly a dark angel. That said, I don't consider the humanoid being I was between the dark angel life and this one to reflect my kin-type any more than my being human does now. Even if I did, that would make me two things, not five. Most people I have encountered who have multiple kin types are not saying things like "oh, I have two forms" or "oh, I have lived a couple lives as different things." No, it's this crazy mash-up of a bazillion different species and it seems to me like people just decide they "resonate" with something one day, decide they must be that, and then resonate with something else the next day and Frankenstein that onto to their self-concept.
Based on my understanding, these kinds of people fall into two categories: 1. people claiming that they are multiple and have headmates who are a bazillion separate kin types from one another and 2. people who claim that they are one person and just happen to be several different things at once.
I want to address both. 1. I guess this makes sense, but I guess I have a hard time understanding why an angel, a demon, a vampire succubus, a wolf, a kitsune, a chicken, a scorpion, an alien, an elf, a fae, a dragon, and literally everything else cool there ever was would all choose to incarnate in the same body. If they didn't choose it, why did this happen? Most people I see claiming things like this either say "it's neural generated" which makes no sense or they just say nothing. I never come across anyone with an explanation for how this is possible. If I ask for one, someone else always comes to the person's defense and says "oh I know him, he's not a liar." Great, I never called him a liar, I just genuinely do not understand and want to.
With 2. I guess I'm even more confused. There have been people whom I've come across who will say things like "I'm a half-fallen-angel with demon blood and elf ancestry not to mention a wolf form, vampire tendencies, succubus genes, and a fox spirit." If you ask them how this is possible, there are never any answers. I'll ask something like "okay, so as a half-fallen-angel with demon blood, you mean that an angel bred with a demon or someone who had demon ancestry to have you, and I guess the person with demon blood was also a succubus and maybe a fox too and then you were bitten and became a werewolf?" They'll say that's not what happened, they just *are* all those things and if you ask them why they'll say they just know because they resonate with all those things. Sometimes their reasons for resonating are as simple as "I have a strong relationship with God so I must be an angel."
Then I come across these people who claim that they are like...lions with snake tails and ram horns and wings. That one's confusing to me but I guess less so than the last one.
I'm really not trying to outright insult anyone's kin-type but I am very confused by this and a little frustrated at this point by my inability to find any decent information explaining this phenomenon and how freaking common it seems to be in the otherkin world to me.
